Juniors is a program designed for beginners aged 5 years and up who are pony mad. Learning to groom, saddle and ride ponies, childrens confidence starts to build immediately. Children will be looking after an Underbank Pony with experienced handlers always on hand to give advice and a helping hand.

Your Child's day will start with catching his/her pony (supervised) from a paddock, they will then go through a theory lesson (in a fun and engaging way) on the ownership of a pony. After theory children will be riding their ponies under the instruction of our qualified instructor who together with experienced handlers will take them through the basic skills on riding.

All riding is done in an enclosed area either in our outdoor arena or our indoor arena. Kids are introduced to fun exciting games on ponies, all games are played in the indoor arena.

After the lesson they have to untack their ponies and put the ponies away and all gear that is used away.

We try and make the experience (2hrs) seem as if they own their own pony and we teach them all the responsibilities that go hand in hand with owning a pony.

The Intermediate group is designed for children who have been riding atleast 2 years. Children should be at a Grade 3 Pony Club (or equivalent) or have had lessons under instruction.

We focus on teaching to an English/European standard, with a focus on collection of horse and soft aids through the reins and strong legs.

The Intermediate group will already know how to saddle up their mount and will start every lesson with a warm up session.

We encourage chilkdren in this group to participate in intershool or other open competitions throughout the year as well as our own Gymkhana. Children will learn to both arrange an event and participate in it.

All Intermediate Riders will be required to come early on a roster basis to assist with the Juniors, as working with less experienced riders provides major skills in understanding riding and horse management.

Bridging Intermediate

This is a group designed for those riders who are beyond the junior level but not quite ready for the intermediate group. It will be run along the same lines as the intermediate group on Saturday.

Advanced

Riders are taken through an extensive lesson including warm up and cool down. Each participant is asked what they would like to achieve and with the instructors guidance they are taken through the aids needed to reach their goals.

All riders will be given an assessment sheet at the end of every term and a mark on their riding ability, to help determine what areas need focusing on.

All riders will undertake a roll in organising a gymkhana at Underbank  and will also participate whether on their oen horse or one of Underbank's school masters.

Students are encouraged to bring their own horse if they have one.

All Advanced Riders will be required to come early on a roster basis to assist with the Juniors, as working with less experienced riders provides major skills in understanding riding and horse management.
